Where To Go And What To Do In Hollywood, FL

Where To Go & What To Do In Hollywood, FL

My husband, Lorenzo, & I have been to South Florida numerous times, but this was the first time that we ever stayed in Hollywood. Hollywood is a lovely coastal city situated right between Ft. Lauderdale & Miami. The city offers many places to see & things to do. Whether you’re planning a family vacation, girls trip or romantic getaway – Hollywood will easily meet your wants & needs. Below I’m sharing some of our favorite Hollywood (& surrounding areas) activities which we highly suggest you check out.

HOLLYWOOD BEACH BOARDWALK, HOLLYWOOD, FL:

Stretching nearly 2.5 miles is one of the top rated boardwalks in America, Hollywood Beach Boardwalk. With separate lanes for pedestrians & those on wheels (bicyclists, skaters & rickshaws), it’s a great place for those who want to stay active.  There are many affordable places to rent bikes, roller-blades & more. We stuck to walking, but that’s mostly because it’s been about 15 years since either of us have ridden a bike. On one side of the boardwalk you will find a variety of restaurants, bars, gift shops, & boutiques. There’s even an outdoor stage, where you may find live bands playing, as well as a surfing wave pool, where there’s always a crowd watching. To the other side of the boardwalk is the beach, of course, & a beautiful beach at that! With many entrances from the boardwalk (including paved areas, which are handicap accessible), sits the beautiful white sandy beaches of Hollywood, FL. Clear water views make for a picturesque background. Even though there are a ton of beaches in South Florida, we enjoyed our first day around Hollywood Beach Boardwalk so much that we went back a second time just a couple of days later.

MAI-KAI RESTAUNRANT – POLYNESIAN SHOW, FT. LAUDERDALE, FL:

Ever since I went to Mai-Kai Restaurant in July 2015 during my bachelorette trip, I knew I wanted to go back there, but with Lorenzo. I won’t get into the amazing food quite yet, as my next blog post will be on where to eat in Hollywood / Ft. Lauderdale. For now I’m just going to talk about the show. Mai-Kai puts on 10 wonderful Polynesian shows a week. The shows consists of talented musicians & dancers that really transport you to the Polynesian Islands. The costumes they wear are all hand-made & the details are absolutely stunning. The routines change every now & then, but they always stay true to the Polynesian cultures & are sure to be entertaining, as well as informative. It cost an additional $15/per person to be seated in the show area, but it is very much worth it. There is a dress code, which can be found on their website, & reservations are highly recommended. You don’t want to miss this show!

ARTSPARK AT YOUNG CIRCLE, HOLLYWOOD, FL:

Right smack in the middle of a traffic circle is the beautiful 10-acre ArtsPark. This park wasn’t on our agenda before arriving to town, in fact we didn’t even know this park existed until we just so happened to drive right by it. In looking at the park from our moving car, we could tell it would be the perfect spot to have a picnic, & so the next day, that’s exactly what we did. We picked up Subway, which is conveniently right across the street, found a bench in the shade, & enjoyed our meal in the company of  birds. After we ate, we explored the park. ArtsPark offers a variety of things to enjoy; from swooping sidewalks, perfect for a stroll, or bike ride, to the coolest playground & water features. There’s even an air conditioned art gallery on site & more. My favorite thing about this park is all of the beautiful trees. There are so many that are so lovely & unique, you’ll definitely want to take some photos. There is street parking, as well as parking across the way near Walgreens. There are also bathrooms on site. Check their website for event dates including concerts, food truck happenings, art classes, & more.

There are many other Hollywood activities as well. It would take dozens of trips to this city before anyone could get around to everything. But that’s what’s so great about this city – you’ll never get bored, because you’ll never run out of enjoyable things to do.

XOXO, Kara
