Where To Eat And What To Order In Austin

Where To Eat And What To Order In Austin Texas

Austin is one of my favorite U.S cities for dining. It’s even been rated America’s Most Vegan-Friendly city. There are so many amazing restaurants in Austin that it can be difficult to decide where to go & what to eat. If you need a little help, continue reading for some of my favorite places to dine in Austin.

MOTHER’S CAFE – AUSTIN, TX:

Mother’s Café is a vegetarian restaurant in the heart of Hyde Park. The vibe is casual with beautiful plants & diverse artwork displayed throughout. Most of the items on the menu are vegan or easily veganizable. All vegan, gluten-free, & contains nuts options are clearly marked with a “V”, “GF”, or a “N”. On their menu, you’ll find soups, salads, enchiladas, pastas, stir-frys, burgers, sandwiches, smoothies, desserts, & more. Their Bueno Burger won “Best Veggie Burger in Austin”, & with so many different veggie burgers in Austin – that’s saying a lot! I have ordered different menu items on various Austin trips & I’ve always been impressed. But I really come to Mother’s Café every single time I’m in Austin for one main reason; sage mashed potatoes. As I’ve said before, I like to think of myself as the potato connoisseur of the world. I’ve tried infinity thousand potatoes, the potato is my favorite food & of every potato that’s ever entered my mouth, Mother’s sage mashed potatoes are THE best! They should be on everyone’s bucket list. Mother’s Café prices range from $15-$30.

REVOLUTION VEGAN KITCHEN – AUSTIN, TX:

Located at Midway Food Park is the all-vegan food trailer, Revolution Vegan Kitchen (RVK). The atmosphere at this food park is so fun, filled with vintage amusement park rides, lights, & décor. The food from RVK coincidentally matches up with the amusement park theme; burgers, tacos, hot dogs, chick’n nuggets, & more. The food was delicious, simple, but sometimes that’s exactly what you want. Of all of the foods ordered, the mozzarella sticks, or as they call them “Notzarella Sticks” were the most anticipated & the most enjoyable. They were my first mozzarella sticks since going vegan a few years ago & they were sooooo good. I have had many-a-mozzarella stick in my lifetime & these vegan ones tasted just as good, actually better because no cow breast milk, or pus, or anything gross like that, just nice warm stretchy vegan cheese fried to perfection. Mmm! I am still kicking myself for not getting additional days worth of mozzarella sticks to go. You can enjoy your food at one of the many picnic tables, & don’t worry if you need a restroom break, they have some on site.  The price range at RVK is $6-$15 & be sure to check the Midway Food Park calendar for events at the park such as concerts, holiday shindigs, & more.

BLENDERS & BOWLS – AUSTIN, TX:

Blenders & Bowls primarily serves up smoothies & acai bowls. Clearly the name is perfect & I wish I would’ve though of it myself! There are many different smoothies & bowls, all of which can be made vegan by simply nixing the honey. They even have the option to add vegan protein powder to any order. I love acai bowls, & I must say this place has the best. The acai blends are the perfect ratio & consistency. Their granola is also buzz-worthy & I’m super picky when it comes to granola! I seriously I want to franchise this place just to share the joy with my town & have access to their recipes to enjoy them every single day, haha. My Blenders & Bowls experience was also my first goji berry experience, & uhm wow goji berries are pretty freaking good! Blenders & Bowls has three different locations; two in Austin, & one just outside of Austin in West Lake Hills. With the highest menu item being under $11, this place is perfect for an energizing breakfast or a healthy afternoon snack.

CONSCIOUS CRAVINGS – AUSTIN, TX:

There are two locations for Conscious Cravings, I went to the South location which is located in South Austin Trailer Park & Eatery. This location is great, it’s in a hip area with lots of boutiques, art galleries, & the famous “Greetings From Austin” postcard mural seen at the top of this post. Conscious Cravings is an all-vegan trailer serving up interesting flavor twists on wraps, salads, & more.  I got the most popular item on the menu; Spicy Chickpea Wrap. There were multiple fire signs next to the menu item signaling that it was quite spicy, but holy hot hell, I still didn’t expect THAT much heat! It honestly was just too hot for me. I was on fire, having to take like 5 minute breaks in between each bite to recover. The flavors were great though, as were my rosemary fries [not pictured], as well as my flavored lemonade. Prices range from $7-$15/meal.

RABBIT FOOD GROCERY – AUSTIN, TX:

A 100% all-vegan grocery store!? Uhm yes!!!! Rabbit Food Grocery (RFG) is just a few blocks down from the Conscious Cravings location listed above. Though it is a small grocery store, it is well-stocked with incredible vegan products. There are lots of meat, dairy, & egg substitutes at RFG, some of which can be found at most grocery stores & others I’ve never seen anywhere else. They offer all of the vegan staples that every pantry NEEDS as well as all of the vegan sweet & savory snacks that every pantry WANTS. From sriracha maple jerky, to white chocolate chips, protein pancake mix, coconut bacon, bee-free honey, etc – this place offers such awesome food products. And the cruelty-free fun doesn’t stop there… RFG also offers vitamins, beauty products, household products, clothing, accessories, & more. This place is an absolute stop for vegans & non-vegans alike. And if you can’t actually make it to the Austin location, you can still purchase many of their products online. Shop here.

Okay I definitely chose the wrong day to write this Austin Food Guide. My mouth is watering reminiscing about all of this amazing food & not only am I NOT in Austin, but I’m also NOT allowed to eat because it’s within a certain amount of hrs of my general anesthesia tomorrow morning. (Oral surgery, not a major surgery, still super terrified though). I’ll be on a liquid – soft diet for a few days. Maybe it’ll be a good time for me to try & get my homemade acai bowls as close to Blenders & Bowls as possible!
